DS-2BCR USB speed on Mac with Thunderbolt 4

  • The DS-2BCR is specified to possess SATA 3.0 Gb/s and USB 3.2 Gen2×2 (10Gbps) compatibility.

Apple Macs do not support the USB2x2 standard; rather, they have Thunderbolt 4, which is backward compatible with USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) and Gen 2 (10 Gbps).

What USB-C standard and speed will the DS-2BCR default to when connected to a Mac using the aforementioned connection?

    Thank you.

  • @tynsareatger It should connect at 10Gbps, but depending on what's in it the real transfer speed will be reduced. For example, a single SATA drive is only 6Gbps and with encoding and overhead of SATA the limit is 5Gbps. In total, if the port supports, performance can reach higher speeds than 5Gbps however.
