Silver external SSDs (Rocket, Nano etc)

  • I had my eye on some external SSDs for a while, but when I went to order some on Amazon recently, the ones I had wanted to buy had vanished, and it seems like the new ones are all black aluminium.

Mainly I was looking at the silver thunderbolt drives and/or USB-c drives; I know the colour choice might seem a little superfluous, but when its something I'm going to have on my desk every day, I want it to be something I like; and I don't enjoy the dark enclosure designs.

Are you in the middle of a product refresh? Should I wait? Should I try to find the older models elsewhere?

  • @Daniel We still have silver products available. This includes the original nano and a number of enclosures. Our latest product, the nano V2, is indeed black, however. We do have some other external SSDs coming out that will be a space gray, I believe.

  • @Sabrent Is there a reason why the original nano is around $50 more expensive in most stores? I would grab one of those, but spending more to get an older product seems silly.

  • @Daniel The nano V2 is cheaper to make at scale and we may eventually phase out the original nano. We are planning Thunderbolt versions with USB fallback to replace the SB-XTRM and nano Rugged.
