Sabrent ‎EC-SNVE unable to read SN520 nvme m2 2280

  • My asus 515-54 708w dropped from a couple feet high and stopped booting. I've been trying to recover the files off of its OEM Kingston sn520 nvme m2 2280 s3 512gb with the Sabrent‎ EC-SNVE I got from Amazon. The drive shows no signs of damage.

In disk managment it says disk 1 not initialized (not showing capacity) and in device manager it says sabrent ssd usb device. Gsmartcontrol sees unknown model pd1, unknown model, basic health check unknown, model family unknown.

I came across this thread saying that some WD OEM drives (like SN530) have compatibility issues with certain chipsets/enclosures. Can anyone confirm if this applies to the SN520 as well or should I try a cheap (m210?) fideco as they did?

  • @bestlaurastevens See if the drive is picked up by DMDE. This will let you know if data retrieval is possible, assuming that the drop did damage the drive as it stopped booting. The damage could be to the laptop instead, but this can be tested by trying a different boot drive or boot method. It's recommended to avoid USB SCSI passthrough if possible with another computer, slot, or PCIe add-in-card, but a USB enclosure should work in most cases. It's not guaranteed to work as some laptop drives will have hardware encryption enabled. Compatibility is usually not an issue but if it is, the EC-SNVE uses the Realtek RTL9210B.
