Have already purchased a sabrent dual bay docking station to replace an older HP CMR HDD containin a useful seemingly failing that has my original Windows 8.0 Professionial OS I'd like to keep running--I have a Seagate Sata 6Gb/s @ 7200 RPM 256 MB cache CMR HDD ready to clone, install and continue using an HP Envy with its installed Win 8.0 OS that seems to working fine at this time.
What pregautions should I use during this exchange? Should I use a static disappating wrist strap etc el during any of these steps?
2) How long time wise should the cloning operation take if its from a 1.56 TB drive with 254 GB free stace? to the new cmr HDD?
Im VERY computer stupid so please forgive if I'm missing or something in my information here.
FWIW I'm replacing the HP C drive suge CrystalDisk showinog the operating temp to maintaining a near constant tempe of 38* C with no noticable issues with the compupers main performance..
TIA for ANY HELP or direction provided---I' concerned I'll so something to cause the still needed desk top to fail
Thanks!
@jwa6096 A static discharge wriststrap is usually not required, but it couldn't hurt. Some locations/environments and materials might be more prone to static generation than others. This shouldn't be an issue when not touching internal parts, but it also can't hurt. If doing an offline clone rather than software, the latter being in an OS or application, the process could be very slow depending on HDD speed and condition as the clone is sector-by-sector. If you have the option of backing up data some other way before doing a clone, do so. The original drive should be fine as long as it's in the proper position as a SOURCE drive.
@Sabrent
Is there a way to receive or select an option to received email notifications of kind reples such as yours? So far I do see one but I might just be missing an option?
I'll obtain a static strat JIC and thanks!
@Sabrent
Thanks for the adice and help too!
If I have any issues with the Sabrent equipment or process I'll be sure to ask here!
Once I'm finished cloning and re-install the HDD in the soon-to-be new home I'll know immediately if the cloning has worked properly?
Thanks again!
