Problems with SK-TB4K KVM

  • I cannot get this device to reliably switch.

    My setup is straightforward:

    Laptop 1: M2 MacBook
    Laptop 2: M4 MacBook

Monitor: Apple XDR Pro Display, with latest firmware.

I'm using only Apple Thunderbolt 4 Pro cables.

If I boot each laptop up while that option is selected on the KVM switch, everything seems to work correctly.

Then, I can use the KVM to switch from one MacBook to the other, and it works — but only once.

If I then switch back, it reconnects the USB devices, but it does not wake the display.

(I know it's connecting to to the XDR display — I tried plugging a USB webcam, and the webcam becomes available. But the display itself does not wake. If I look in macOS System Information, I see the monitor listed as a Thunderbolt / USB device, but not as a display device.)

I have tried different cables, I have removed all other USB devices. But I can only switch once — after that, I have to reboot each laptop to get them to reconnect to the display.

    Any ideas?

  • @Simon A This seems to be an issue with how the Apple devices or macOS are handling the display drivers or handling DP Alt Mode. I'd recommend checking and maybe posting in the Apple support forums as members there are more focused on this hardware. There are certain tweaks that are macOS-specific that might enable a workaround.
