It would be really useful to indicate on your marketing material/packaging whether a particular enclosure is compatible with Opal-compliant SSDs.
I have just bought a USB-C 6 Port Hub with an M.2 SSD slot not even thinking that there might be a compatibility issue, but it does not allow me to use my Samsung 990Pro SSD.
Can you release a firmware update to fix this problem?
Or are you willing to issue a refund, or an alternative device that is compatible?
Thank you
@gwatkins @gwatkins Good feedback. Hardware encryption via TCG Opal, for example using sedutil, may have problems with NVMe passthrough on some bridge chips. We generally use Realtek as their bridges support SATA and NVMe. Many bridge chips have difficulty with this type of usage, but PCIe tunneling with USB4/TB enclosures should work more reliably. Samsung and WD tend to use ASMedia (ASM2362) in their enclosures which also has problems with this. Additionally, the industry has largely not trusted the hardware encryption standard, but that's a separate point.
