KCPD KVM Switch won't switch to second computer

  • The KCPD arrived today.  It won't switch to the second computer.

They keyboard and mouse aren't working with PC 2

The display goes blank and does not detect a signal coming from PC 2.
I tried connecting it with display port to USB C cable and with an adapter.  The GPU is a Zotac 4070, monitor is a Dell U2717D

PC 1 (actually a 2025 MacMini) is working as expected so the kvm isn't defective it seems.

I talked to Sabrent support and they said the USB on my motherboard needs to have alt mode or display mode.
Why would that effect how the keyboard and mouse work?

  • @Ballstone You need DisplayPort Alternate Mode support to get a video signal which you won't get through a discrete GPU usually but it is doable with iGPUs/APUs and in some other scenarios. The data portion of this also has to be able to communicate with the motherboard. So, if your USB-C connection to the PC is to the GPU then it won't work.

What we recommend is to plug it into a regular USB-C port to switch the USB and then have a separate switch, with adapter if necessary, to switch the display input. The keyboard/mouse portion of the KVM should still operate as desired, the V portion requires DP Alt Mode which is designed for things like laptops, Steam Decks, etc. In some cases you could run a discrete GPU with a CPU that has an iGPU enabled, if there is DP Alt Mode support, but that video output would be from that iGPU and not GPU and may or may not support USB switching.
