M.2 22110-to-USB4 Adapter

  • There are zero entrants in this space. I have searched high and low. The only existing M.2 22110 adapters are for USB 3.2 (with an order magnitude worse latency for NVMe). But 110 mm length should not be hard to support, because:

    • It is only an additional 3 cm; or
    • The space already exists in the enclosure, but the PCB just has to be designed to reverse the orientation of the M.2 SSD.

In the latter case, how not to design the enclosure:

    1. The OWC 1M2 is long enough to support 22110, but the SSD is sandwiched in such a way that the extra space cannot be used even if I were to dremel away the extra aluminum!
      OWC Express 1M2
    2. The HyperDrive Next USB4 NVMe SSD Enclosure and ZikeDrive USB4 NVMe SSD Enclosure both have the same problem as well.
The HyperDrive Next USB4 NVMe SSD Enclosure and ZikeDrive USB4 NVMe SSD Enclosure

These are infuriating. If not giving me the option to shoehorn in a M.2 22110 SSD, at least leave me the option to perform warranty-voiding surgery on the enclosure to force one in...

The Sabrent Thunderbolt 3 to M.2 NVMe SSD Tool-Free Enclosure is so close! The USB-C and M.2 connectors are at the same end of the PCB. The aluminum enclosure just has to be a bit longer.

  • @Kevin Li We still build for 2280 for the most part, but if longer and/or wider drives become more common in the future we will revisit that market.
