EC-T3NS Thunderbolt 3 to NVMe Enclosure Reads Faster But Writes Slower than previous AddLink B20 USB Enclosure
DELL Precision 5560 Mobile Workstation (Latest BIOS and Drivers)
Windows 10 Pro 64bit (Updated)
Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB (Inside Enclosure)
Thunderbolt 4/USB-C port (Same port used during benchmark tests)
Using the AddLink B20
Using Sabrent EC-T3NS
This is a very dissapointing result where the write speeds are slower using EC-T3NS compared to B20 enclosure.
Is there a new firmware or known issue to improve this result ?
Or can I return to for refund ?
Thanks
Hello @timoto ,
To attain faster write speeds you must enable write caching on the device. It looks like it is disabled based on your benchmark results. Here is a quick and simple fix.
To enable write caching, do the following:
- Right-click the Windows "Start" button
- Click "Disk Management"
- Right-click your "Disk #"
- Click "Properties"
- Click the "Policies" tab
- Click the "Better performance" bubble
- Check the "Enable write caching on the device" checkbox
- Click "OK" and if prompted to restart, restart.
Benchmark again and you should see faster write speeds.
Thank you for your advice.
Following your recommendation, the performance for EC-T3NS has improved:
Do you think this is a reasonable result for the given hardware ?
Thanks
@timoto
Yes, your performance result is reasonable given the hardware and system used.
