Thunderbolt 5 hub + KVM/switch

  • The Thunderbolt 5 version of this with EDID and HID emulation would obliterate all TB5 docking stations competitors!

  • When will the new KVM switch will be released though?

  • @Koenigs We have samples for testing but no firm date yet.

  • @Sabrent great, can't wait for this new product to be released.

The SB-TB4K has been sold out for a while on your website. I ordered one on Amazon but turned out I received a unit with a revision number under 301794. Apparently the issue of the SB-TB4K frying motherboards when plugged to a simple USB-C DP Alt Mode port has been fixed starting from this revision number. So I had to return my SB-TB4K because that's actually what I wanted to do. My desktop PC doesn't have any Thunderbolt 4 port, only a USB-C DP Alt Mode one...

I really hope the upcoming Thunderbolt 5 KVM Switch (SB-TB5K ?) won't have this very scary issue at all. Planning on buying it on day 1 to use it on my desktop PC and laptop (which also doesn't have a Thunderbolt port)

Note that I wanted to buy a Thunderbolt KVM switch because I want to daisy-chain it with another Thunderbolt 4 dock from another brand that I already own. Not sure if the USB Type C Dual KVM Switch (USB-CKDH) could be used that way...

  • @Koenigs Some early TB4K units did have trouble with uncertified systems/ports or ones that did not precisely comply with the specification. For Thunderbolt 5 we've worked closely with Intel as a launch company/partner with wider testing for conformance. Thunderbolt can be daisy-chained but USB/USB-C may be less flexible.

  • @Sabrent will the new TB5 KVM have EDID and HID emulation?

  • @olivernybroe As the Thunderbolt specification evolves, more and more optional features from earlier revisions become part of the standard. It's possible such emulation will included but we're also separately aware of the demand for it. I'll have to see if such features have been tested yet.

  • @Sabrent , any news on this front?

  • @Aqualung If/when we have anything to announce, you'll know! We are working with Intel for our TB5 product releases and want the smoothest launches possible.

  • @Sabrent Thunder bolt 4 kvm is a grate product with originality. I am happy to see the tb5 version. But could it less heat? :p

  • @yuxuan liang We have taken feedback of the TB4 into consideration, which includes cooling.
