EC-DFFN Docking Station - 14 TB SATA 3.5 Drive Not Reading

  • I got my new USB 3.0 SATA Hard Drive docking station today but when I installed it and inserted the 14 TB hard drive I have it won't read. So I started searching online for solutions.

The info: I have a refurbished Dell Optiplex 9020 running Windows 10 Pro. I have an older Sabrent external drive station that has no problem reading both of my large 12 & 14 TB hard drives. I know its not the computer that has the problem.

Both drives are GB NTFS formatted with one partition. Its not the MBR type thus needs a firmware update to be read.

I went to Sabrent's support page, entered in the model number, downloaded the firmware update and powered up the docking station without the drive inserted. The operation was successful but when I reinserted the drive it still was not being read by Windows OS.

This is the firmware update I used: JMS583_FWUpdate_Utility_v1_0_0_8

Is there something else I need to do? I would like to be able to use this docking bay as I like the cooling fan option.

NOTE: I CAN boot up a 6 TB hard drive with this docking station. The larger drives are not reading.

    Any ideas?

  • @wmp3662 Depending on the drive, it may have to be formatted in the enclosure to be enclosure-readable. You may also be able to use a program like DMDE to see if the data is present and readable. For firmware problems/requests, check with the site technical support/customer service as they may have up-to-date information or firmware.
