This unit works as advertised. It is easy (but not fast) to clone one drive to another without the use of a computer using this docking station.
I've been through a ton of these kinds of docks over the past decade, and most of them are pure garbage. Chinese knockoffs and weird off-brand models rarely worked for long, if at all, and it was almost a guarantee that one of the adapters wouldn't function out of the box...Not this model! This things worked 100%, right out of the box, with every adapter working just fine. It's compact, and the cover is a godsend, since the drive bays tend to collect dust and what-not over time. Finally, it's lightweight and compact, so it's easy to store. All in all, this was WELL worth the price, and I'd buy more products from this company in the future!
I bought this to assist in formatting/preparing/scanning some drives that I bought for use in my NAS. I also have some other Sabrent products that work well for me. For the most part, it worked well with WD drives. WD Diagnostics could detect drives, their serials, run SMART tests, etc. But SeaTools could not detect the drive correctly and would not report any data on the drives, using either slot. I could see serial and SMART results with Crystal Disk Info, but couldn't do scans/repairs with SeaTools. Since that use case is important for 50% of the drives I use, I had to return it. If I were only using WD drives, I wouldn't have noticed this issue. And just to verify it wasn't just the drive - using a different HDD hub works fine and SeaTools can detect the drive without any issue. Maybe the chipset inside?
Solid all aluminum construction, fast, quiet and cool running. Using with Mac mini M1. Combination of 3.5 and 2.5 drives(with adapters of course) from 1tb to 14tb in all bays. Love the way each bay door inserts and removes its drive simply by opening and closing. No opinion on tech support because haven’t needed any.
works well for docking old hard drives that operating systems no longer work but have files for use or being stored. However, the drives get really hot if left on for long periods of time. So, I have to get what I need and then turn off.
