USB 3.0 to 2.5-Inch SATA External Aluminum Hard Drive Enclosure

Sabrent's USB 3.0 enclosures are the only enclosures that consistently work with 2.5 inch SATA SSDs. I now own 4 Sabrent enclosures. Note: NOT ALL SSDs ARE COMPATIBLE with a USB enclosure - I have tested two popular brands that DO NOT function correctly in a USB enclosure yet work correctly on a direct SATA connection.

Made sturdy and built well. I have an SSD 2TB drive to transfer files from one PC to others and is very fast and quick found when plugged in the USB 3.0 port. Super easy to install the drive. Also (but not that important) like the clear case on it to see the drive inside.

These are fantastic, easy to install and the best price for good backups, extra storage or photo library. I am running OWC Mercury 6G SSDs 1TB drives.

I used it for an external boot drive enclosure with a kingston ssd. It works fine with no disconnects at all.

When my old computer died I was concerned about getting my information from my old laptop to my new one. I spilled water on my old one and my new one won't take two drives. This made it possible for me to get everything transferred to my new computer hard drive.

I bought this to change my Imac 2017 HD into SSD without opening the computer and finally I,m happy with my iMac after 3 years been frustrated because it was so slow to open everything with the Hard Drive

The enclosure is VERY simple & straight forward. Includes the cord.Being able to see the pink or blue colors reflecting inside the clear case is just fun :-)Very inexpensive. Arrived very quickly.

The product works well and as expected. It was a simple matter to insert my HDD into the case, close it up and start using it within a few minutes.

The enclosures performed as described and expected. I did not measure the transfer rate but they matched a super fast connector I have been using to date.Note these are meant for 2.5" SATA drives that do NOT exceed 9.5 mm. One of my drives is thicker so I inserted it without putting on the cover but holding the drive in place with electricians tape. Worked beautifully.Excellent value for the price.

Upgraded laptop with SSD, this allowed me to repurpose HDD as external resource. Very easy to adapt & use. Did same for wife’s laptop.

I bought this case so I could get some use out of a ssd I pulled from a desktop machine that died. And it worked without any problems when I was using it with my old Thinkpad laptop. But fast-forward to the present (2022) and I've been having a hard time using it with my MacBook Air M1 with macOS 12.1. And it's the only external drive that is having any problems with this machine (WD Passport, Toshiba Canvio Flex, various thumb drives). It's oddly finicky about how I connect it. For example, it sometimes won't be recognized at all when connected using USB-A connector through my Anker hub (M1 MBA only has USB-C). Other times it will be recognized but then will just hang when I try a simple file transfer (never complete but drive always blinking). But then it seems to generally work fine with a USB-A to USB-C adapter then connecting to my hub.I'm not going to risk screwing up my drive so I'm just going to replace this enclosure.

Great piece if hardware. Turned an SSD I have into an easily used external drive to store pictures on. Would recommend.

Gets the job done. But the product is flimsy. You could get same quality more at half the price from chinese websites.

My internal drive went down on my iMac. While I plan to replace the internal fusion drive with the SSD drive eventual;ly, I needed a way to get back up and running quickly. This case combined with an SSD drive is working great as my main drive via USB 3.

So, I have this old laptop that I'm still using. It has a couple of USB 3.0 ports and I figured I could use an enclosure for a few drives I have. Found this product, saw it was pretty cheap, good reviews, so ordered it.It arrived today and I've used three different drives in it with almost no issue. The issue is it doesn't pass on S.M.A.R.T. data from the hard drive. For me, this is a pretty big issue as it means I have to install the drives in my desktop computer (almost never use it) every so often just to get an idea of the health of the drives.However, for use as an external drive enclosure, it does great. I get sustained speeds of around 40MBps with bursts to 200MBps. Quite fast. My setup is an ADATA SSD in the laptop and an ADATA SSD in the enclosure running MX Linux (Debian 10 Buster with 5.15 kernel). The speeds for a regular 7200 RPM laptop hard drive is a little less than the SSD with this setup. I tested it by doing a full backup of my home directory (about 80GB) from the laptops new ADATA SU630 SSD to a 7200 RPM WD Scorpio Black 12 year old laptop drive.Overall, for the price, excellent.The case is a little tough to open, but simple. You don't need fingernails or tools. Just fingers and a little strength and friction.I gave 4 stars due to the lack of S.M.A.R.T. forwarding.

If you've only got one disk drive that you're gonna put in there and use the case for that drive exclusively then this is a great case .. but if you're like me and have a bunch of SSDs that you want to swap in and out of this case then this might not be the best case because there's no room inside the case to pull the drive out of the case easily. You have to use a knife or something to prop out the disk one you install it. Annoying. But overall a good case.

I bought a 1TB 2.5" SSD hard drive to offload some large GoPro video files from my PC. Plugged the new drive into this and it worked right out of the box like you'd expect.The new drive was unformatted, so it didn't show up immediately in Windows Explorer -- it took me a minute to figure out how to get Windows 10 to format and partition it, but that's really a Windows thing and not specific to this enclosure -- but it is something you'll need to do if the drive you're adding has been formatted.I've only had it about a week, but no complaints so far. Would buy again.
