Was my Sabrent caddy of choice

I tried pretty much every Sabrent caddy with the exception of the thunderbolt since only one of my PC is capable of using it. Had issues with all other 3.2 caddy’s tested. This one fit the bill the best, has great build quality, dissipates heat the best, and always is consistently recognized by the PC. Off brands are cheap and fast but they completely stink for build quality and heat disputation.

I'd like to like it however...

The USB C on the device seems to NEVER want to connect. The port seems faulty on both models that I have purchased and am now stuck with. Avoid.

Excellent since it covers both types of cards.

Really nice nd solid. Excellent since it covers both types of cards and is water proof as well. In addition no tools are required. Absolutely great.

Very Good Drive

I bought this for a spare WD Black 1TB Nvme I pulled from an old system to clone a new OS for my laptop. Didn't go through with it and instead used it for back up storage. While the overall expirience is good I do have one gripe. In the manual it talks about a magnetic retainer for the nvme but its really a rubber retainer. Not a deal breaker if you didn't need to use a pick or something to bend the retainer back to seat the drive. Its fine if you are using smaller nvme drives.Still a good purchase.

Excellent product for Mac users

First USB hub to work as advertised on my Imac 27" . All the ports work very well (even simultaneously) . Appearance is very beautiful also; excellent compliment for your Mac.

SOLID.

Great combo for anyone looking to add a large capacity NVMe SSD. I am currently using the WD 2TB NVMe SSD and it is blazing fast for my needs. I save so much time from editing and storing photos and videos, and the heavy-duty case gives me ease of mind for protecting such an expensive drive.

Easy to make a useful SSD

I had an SSD on a card. This case was very easy to use to turn it into a portable SSD that I can carry with me. Read write speed is super fast. It took about two minutes to set it up in this case.

Great Value - Great build quality

Written 1 month into ownership.I purchased this item to replace an older 4 port hub USB 3.0 for a Desktop PC. One of the ports in my previous hub was always connected to a card reader so having a dedicated reader was a clear upgrade for my use case. I have been using the hub daily for about a month for both USB and card reading/writing. Transfer speeds are as expected for a USB 3.0 hub/card reader. I have no complaints about this device. The construction is solid and well built, there is a small white light that stays on even when the devices is not in use (great for locating it in dark/low light conditions).Overall it preforms as expected and meets/exceeds my needs and expectations. It would be great to have the ability to change out the cable for a longer USB cable but that's not something anyone should expect at this price point.

Exactly what I wanted!

I have used many card readers over the years however this one is certainly the best I have had, when I place the memory cards in it it feels secure, the device itself is small and nimble just what I wanted!

Premium device

At least this has the look and feel to go along with the price. The case is really well built and physically heavy for its size. It has a USB C to C cable as well as a C to A to pretty much cover connectivity issues. All that together with the tool-less design makes this a real winner. As others have said, you are on your own for the heat dissipation pads, and make sure you don't lose the little rubber locking thingy. A good one for the "discerning" user.

Top Quality Sabrent USB C 3.2 M.2 SATA & NVMe SSDs External TOOLESS Mount-Fits 2242/2260/2280

Now that M.2 NVMe memory SSD prices have come down, I decided to get one of these to hold a Sabrent 2TB M.2 2280 NVMe also Sabrent Brand. Sabrent is a top quality equipment manufacturer whose products I can trust my precious data with. I prefer the small additional cost of a warranteed product (2 years upon registration) to stuff made by anyone and rebranded.Picture 1 shows the product which includes 2 thermal non-conductive strips of different thicknesses for if I have a single sided or double sided NVMe. The case has a simple rotate 90 degrees tab to open it (Picture 2). The case is made of finely machined aluminum and has 4 rubber dot feet. My M.2 NVMe 2280 slides in to the standard M.2 key mount and I put the tiny rubber button standoff on the end of the memory stick, pressed it down to get a detectable snap into position and other than adding the heat thermal material, that was it! (Pictures 4&5). Pop the back on, rotate the tab and done. NO TOOLS! No teensy tiny M2 screws to drop and lose. A SUPERIOR design!I attached this to my desktop with my own 1.2Meter USB4 Cable (Picture 6), formatted the drive with Win10 and it was ready to use. There is an "activity" tiny LED on the case. No drivers or external power is needed. Superb! Transfer speeds are up to 10 Gbps for USB C gen 3.2 but of course are dependent upon the host equipment and the M.2 NVMe used. This mount is IP67 waterproof and is provided with an excellent instruction sheet, not that I did more than glance at it. The mount will also accept M.2 SATA SSDs with the same style key.I Highly Recommend this Sabrent Store USB 3.2 IP67 Water Resistant Tool-Free Enclosure for M.2 PCIe NVMe and M.2 SATA SSDs (EC-WPTF). This is a superior quality product from a manufacturer well known and totally dependable with support if needed.I hope you’ve found the information and my review helpful.

Perfect!...were it not for one flaw

This is without a doubt the most robust, sturdy, and apparently durable SSD enclosure that I have come across to date. I’m not kidding when I say that I would feel fairly confident betting on its survival and continued operation after being run over by a dump truck. The case is sealed so tightly after securing the finger twistable enclosure lock, that there is zero give, jiggle, or rattle. To hold it in the hand, it is a little difficult to believe that this thing has any cavity in it whatsoever, as it feels like a solid piece of machined aluminum.Like Achilles, though, this little wonder brick is only almost invulnerable. The very heart of this beast is tragically flawed. The process of securing the drive in its horizontal operating position – as opposed to its 45ish degree installation position – includes fitting a small rubber plug (rubplug) into to the offset notch of the drive and then pressing the drive and the plug into the appropriate corresponding notch within the case, as seen in the photograph I’ve attached of the installation manual. It’s not a terrible idea that I’m sure was primarily implemented to be able to market this as “tool free.” Although a little frustrating to wiggle into place on the case itself, once in, everything was ship shape and I was back to admiring just how safe I felt with my disk inside this vault of an enclosure….but then I realized that I had installed the wrong drive.Reentering the enclosure was as easy as a twist of the fingers. But when I tried to dislodge the rubplug, the top tab of the plug sheared right of with just the slightest amount of pressure. The drive sprung back out into its installation position and the rubplug remained securely in place within the case’s notch. I thought to myself “It’s okay, surely there are extras in the box. There’s no way that this company would allow their nearly perfect behemoth of an enclosure be undone by a rinky-dink rubplug.” Wrong! Sadly this company would allow their masterwork to be so easily undone, either/both by the lack of included spare rinky-dink rubplugs and/or the lacking durability of the rubplug to begin with.Nonetheless, I am quite infatuated with this enclosure. But I think that I can maintain this level of attraction because just enough of the sheared off tab remains on one side (I’m talking a fraction of a fraction of a millimeter) that I was able to twist the rubplug and get the newly installed SSD to lay horizontal long enough to quickly shut the enclosure and convince myself that in remains securely in place.Even though this was a hairsbreadth away from being unusable (safely anyway), I can’t bring myself to give this less than four stars, because it is just so solid in every other way. Short of the rubplug, this is the best SSD enclosure I’ve used. Obviously, I offer the recommendation to the manufacturer to either replace the rubplug with something else, beef it up, or, at the very least, include a few extras in the box. I also recommend to end users that, if you find that you need to swap drives, don’t work the rubplug from the top. I would recommend using a spudger or something similar to press on the plug at a point between the drive and where the plug fits into the case to try to dislodge it from the case. I know it sounds crazy to still like something that requires any additional handling like this, but it really is just such a good enclosure otherwise. For what it’s worth, my enclosure houses a 256GB B+M Key M.2 SSD that is running Linux and serves as a boot + everything else drive, connected to the motherboard via USB 3.0. It runs fast and flawlessly.

Fast, Well-Made M.2 NVMe Enclosure with a Couple Minor Quirks

Important: The manual I received doesn't say what to do with the two included blue thermal pads. In case your manual doesn't, either: You're supposed to stick one of the two thermal pads - whichever gives the tightest fit with your M.2 drive while still being able to seal the enclosure - to the back of the enclosure door.. There are 'L' brackets etched into the door indicating where it should go, and the holes cut into the thermal pads should line up with the circular indentations in the door. See my second picture for reference.I got this enclosure to house an M.2 NVMe drive that I had spare after upgrading the one in my laptop. Waste not, want not. After a couple weeks of fairly intensive use, I can safely say that I'm happy with this acquisition. Here's why:Pros-----* Blazing fast. The USB ports on my workstation and laptop were the limiting factor here, not this enclosure.* Clever tool less. I strongly prefer tool less accessories when I can find them, because you never know when you're going to need to repair or otherwise tinker with them in the field - where you're almost guaranteed to never have many tools with you.* Comes with both USB C and USB A cables. I like this attention to details.* Overall excellent build quality. This enclosure is obviously well-machined, and feels like a premium product.* Waterproof. I didn't work up the nerve to test this, but the rubber gasket around the bottom makes me confident that it should be able to survive brief submersion in water.* It has rubber feet on its bottom, helping hold it in place instead of letting it slide around.* Attractive. I love this NVMe enclosure's clean minimalist design.Cons-----* Bad documentation. The manual talks about using a magnetic pin to hold the M.2 drive in place, but the enclosure comes with a rubber stopper instead. The manual also doesn't mention what to do with the two blue thermal pads that come with it at all.* Rubber 'pin' used to hold the M.2 drive into place is hard to insert, and feels flimsy enough that it might not survive being removed more than a couple of times.* Heavy. I imagine this is because the entire enclosure is used as a heat sink to keep the M.2 drive cool, but it's still the heaviest M.2 drive enclosure I've ever seen. It's heavy enough that I'm literally considering getting another, lighter M.2 drive enclosure for my backpack.Despite these minor flaws, this M.2 NVMe enclosure works extremely well overall. I don't regret getting it in the slightest, and would gladly recommend it to family and friends.

Quality, Functionality, Simplicity

I love the simplicity, functionality, and quality of materials. Dissipates heat well and comes with cable options as well as options for thickness of heat transfer pads. Nice job, Sabrent.

Very nice enclosure with respectable speed

Sabrent is on the come up when it comes to external SSDs and enclosures, they have one of the broadest portfolios in this area. This M.2 NVME aluminum enclosure is one of their latest and supports USB 3.2 gen 2 (10Gbs) and has the added bonus of being water resistant with a rating of IP67 which means that it should be able to withstand being submerged in 3ft of water for up to 30 minutes! So if you happen to have this on you while white water rafting and it falls overboard, as long as you retrieve it promptly, it should be unharmed. That's a very nice bonus feature but one that hopefully most won't put to the test. The shell of this enclosure is crafted out of machined aluminum and has a nice design and weight to it. The enclosure consists of two pieces, the bulk of the enclosure and a twist sealed door on the bottom that has rubber feet to keep the enclosure planted and stable on the desktop. The disassembly mechanism is genius and I think all manufacturers could learn from Sabrent on this front. Just lift up the half ring on the bottom, turn and lift, that's it, no tools required! The enclosure supports M.2 drives, both SATA and NVME, so you don't have to choose a high-end drive if you don't really need it.*Of note, there is a rubber head that secures the SSD in the enclosure once you have it seated and it's kind of a pain to get it to close properly without some manipulation on you end but that's about all the hassle this drive has and once you have it, everything is good to go.In use, my test bed consisted of a B360 motherboard with a USB 3.2 gen 2 port. The drive I used was a Samsung PM981a NVME capable of 3,500 MBs read and 2200 MBs write, so there shouldn't be any bottlenecks from the drive itself. Read speeds capped out at about 1,041 MBs read and a 937 MBs write. I made sure the drive was optimized for performance in read/write and that's the best speed I was able to get, not bad by any stretch as the advertised marketing specs top out at just 1,000 MBs so it already is exceeding manufacturer spec but the USB 3.2 gen 2 specs should be capable of about 1,210 MBs theoretical max so this enclosure is running at about 85% of max theoretical speed. The write speed is slightly lower than this and is to be expected. All in all this is a great and versatile enclosure with a very nice feature set and it comes highly recommended.

Better for Travel than a Desk Very Bright LED for NO Reason and Short Cable.

I bought this because it looked like a good fit on my desk for getting my camera CF card loaded into my PC. For that purpose it works very well. The deduction for one star is the super short cable, it sits at the back corner of my desk near the rear of my mid-tower PC and it barely makes it. The next reason is the always on LED light, its so bright it and facing down on my white desk that the light is shinging into my eyes even though it is behind and below a fairly bright monitor. What is the purpose of this white LED? So I can find it hidden at the back of my desk squished into a corner so it makes it to my PC? As I'm looking at it I'm tempted to subtract another star - so I'll put it in the middle at 3.5 stars. This is so bright that at night I have to cover it or shut my PC power off at the back of the tower.
